Hotel Plantación: An Ode to Sustainability

Updated: May 22, 2025

There is something so satisfying about buildings that have been thought through; when their aesthetic is consistent with the feeling they produce to visitors, when you know that every corner is the result of careful methodical planning.

And, there is something even more satisfying about luxury hotels. Whether it be state of the art meals, luxurious bathrooms or comfortable beds, every part of luxury hotel is aimed so visitors never forget their stay there.

What is so beautiful and so unique about Hotel Plantación, is how they blend sustainability with luxury in an unprecedented manner.

Hotel Plantación boasts that they are not a hotel, but rather a sustainability school disguised as one. Every part of their hotel is extremely thought through.

Each visitor, when they arrive, is given a tote bag for their purchases while in town; this is to ensure that no extra plastic waste is generated . Each visitor is also given three types of containers to separate waste. They're also given glass bottles, so they don't feel the need to buy or use plastic ones. Finally, visitors are encouraged to use an hourglass when showering, to be conscious of water usage and waste.

They are also encouraged to collect water from their shower while it's heating up.

In short, Hotel Plantación offers a mix of something that is not replicated easily. Their target audience is not only travelers who enjoy luxury, but also those who choose to experience and learn about sustainability. Hotel Plantación's audience is geared towards those who wish to learn properly about nature, to understand how humans fit into this part of the cycle, and how nature cleanly fits in it.

They strive, with small, everyday actions, to truly make an impact on those who wish to see it. They wish to change the actions of all their visitors not only within their hotel, but wherever they carry it after. Hotel Plantación is a beautiful tribute that shows that luxury and sustainability can go hand in hand, and how travelers are not only shaped by their experience within the hotel, but also what goes beyond that.
